About us

The cultivation and breeding studies of field crops grown in the plains and plateaus of the Western Mediterranean region are the main topics of the Department. While efforts are made to develop new varieties, all genetic and agricultural characteristics of these varieties are also determined.

Some of the research topics that have been conducted previously, are ongoing, or are planned for the future include: breeding of closed-capsule sesame, breeding of chickpeas suitable for different conditions, breeding of lentils, hybrid corn breeding, early and disease-resistant potato breeding, wheat and barley breeding, studies on determining idiotype with biotechnological methods. Research is conducted in the regions of Campus, Aksu, Korkuteli, Ürkütlü, and Kızılkaya.

Undergraduate and graduate education is provided in the Department, and primarily the following courses are offered: Agricultural Ecology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Biotechnology, Seed Science, Cereals, Pulse Crops, Oilseed - Fiber - Spice – Sugar – Starch Plants, Pasture - Forage, Fodder Crops, Field Crop Production, Computer Techniques, Genetic Engineering.

Currently, the Department has 9 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, and 2 Research Assistants in the academic staff.
